Michelle Morfett is the baker, business owner, and foodie creative behind Auckland’s beloved Mint Cakery — and yes, the smell of freshly baked cookies really is as good as you imagine.
Michelle started selling homemade cakes at the Hobsonville Farmers Market when she was just 21, armed with big dreams and a bigger sweet tooth. By 23, she’d opened Mint Cakery in Pt Chev and quickly learned what running a business (and surviving on no sleep) really meant. Fast forward a few years, a second bakery, and a whole lot of butter later, Mint Cakery now calls Ellerslie home, serving up cakes, cookies, and treats that are equal parts nostalgic and drool-worthy.
Alongside her business partner Darren Jarrett, Michelle also co-owns Ashby Pies, proving she’s just as passionate about the perfect flaky pastry as she is about a good buttercream swirl.
Her social media journey began in 2023 with a lightbulb moment (and a looming cookbook release): “No one knows me — only Mint!” So she started sharing recipes, tips, and behind-the-scenes kitchen moments online, and her audience instantly fell in love. Michelle’s content is as generous as her baking; she shares everything she knows with no gatekeeping, no fluff, just real, delicious food and genuinely helpful advice.
These days, she’s just as happy teaching others to master a recipe as she is dreaming up her next cake flavour.
