Meet Ollie Ferguson: Ironman Athlete and Coach

If there’s a challenge involved, chances are Ollie Ferguson is already training for it 🏃🏅

Ollie started creating content while preparing for his first Ironman 70.3, wanting to share the kind of content he felt was missing in New Zealand. Since then, he’s grown an engaged audience through honest storytelling, consistent training content, and a down to earth approach to endurance sport 👏

Whether he’s talking race prep, recovery, or mindset, Ollie’s content feels motivating without ever feeling over polished. Calm, driven, and easy to watch, Ollie makes endurance content feel genuinely relatable 👟

What kind of content do you create and why do you enjoy it?

I create content around training and racing for endurance events, mainly Ironman Triathlon. I love it because it's enabled me to connect with all sorts of endurance athletes all around the world who share a passion for these events, just like me.

How many Ironman series’ have you competed in and what do they mean to you?

I've completed three Ironman events and two half-Ironman’s! They meant a lot to me because each race kind of proves to yourself how much you are capable of when you put in the work.

Where does your passion for fitness come from? What sparked you to begin your journey years ago?

My passion for fitness really comes from my desire to push myself, to see what I'm capable of. What's sparked me to begin this journey, years ago, was seeing people who were just like me not too long ago go on to complete events like Ironman, so it made it feel a bit more real.

What advice would you give to someone new to nutrition and wanting a simple routine to follow?

People often forget that food is a crucial part of training and recovery. Some advice I’d give to someone who's trying to find a system that's cheap, easy, and effective is to try and cook with whole Foods.

So for me, that normally looks like cooking with basic fruit or vegetables, some type of meat and some type of carb like rice, pasta, kūmara or something like that. If you're sticking with those whole foods, you can't really go wrong!

What inspires you to share your journey with all the ups and downs on social media? How do you want people to feel when they see your content?

When I started I had absolutely no idea what I was doing, so if I can help someone who's in that position to get to the point where I am now, or even to finish their first race or whatever their goal might be, that's a pretty cool opportunity!

When people see my content, I'd want them to feel like these sort of achievements are possible for anyone. You don't have to be the first person around or have the flashiest gear, but if you put in the effort, these sort of feats aren’t impossible.

What’s coming up next for Ollie?

What's coming up next for me? I've got Ironman in Australia on the 18th of October, so that's coming up fast and we're really looking forward to that!
